Easy Lollipop and Cake Pop Props

Cake pop and Lollipop Props

These very simple lollipops and cake pops are one of the first props Sabrina and I made. They are also the very first ones I came up with myself. I was looking through our craft supplies and came across small Christmas ornaments that were the perfect size for lollipops and cake pops.

The materials needed to make these cake pops or lollipops are the smallest size plastic ball Christmas ornaments and one size up, an Xacto knife, a towel, Mod Podge, a paintbrush, an empty egg carton, and lollipop sticks. Beads or other types of sprinkles are optional.

Carefully cut this part off

First you need to take the part that connects the ornament to the hook off. Then lay the towel down to keep the ornament from slipping while you cut the part underneath off. Go slow and turn the ornament as you cut. And always cut away from you; the Xacto knife sometimes slips while doing this. You may mess a few up while figuring out how much pressure to add- I did. The glitter ones break easier, but also tear easier, as you can see from the gaping hole in the picture.

Next drip Mod Podge or glue into the hole. We dipped the lollipop stick in the Mod Podge and let it drip into the hole. Be generous. You want enough glue that the lollipop stick stays in place when dry. We used an empty egg carton to hold the ornament with the hole straight up and added the lollipop stick making sure it was also straight up while drying. Set them aside to dry at least overnight.

After the lollipop or cake pops were dry we coated the glitter ones in Mod Podge because glitter was getting everywhere. Let them dry standing up. If you aren't painting them or adding sprinkles you are done. We used tiny beads for the sprinkles. We simply coated where we wanted the sprinkles with Mod Podge and added the beads. Once dry we coated it in Mod Podge again. And they're done.

The only difference between the lollipops and cake pops are their size and we didn't add sprinkles to the lollipops.
