Prince Cape and Sash

For the cape, I used a table cloth I had sized for a small table. It measured 30"x30". Keep in mind that my Prince, Joshua, is a five-year old.

The sash is a scrap from the same material as his Royal Money Bag Prop. It was an odd shaped scrap so I made it as wide as I could and cut it into a long skinny rectangle that fit diagonally from shoulder to waist. If this was a costume that he'd wear over and over again I would attach the sash with Velcro dots. However, my little guy won't be wearing this shirt much longer, so I may do that with a bigger size shirt. I loosely attached it with thread and a needle at the top and tape at the bottom for the photo.

Materials needed for the cape are a tablecloth for a side table or  32"x32" square of fabric, ribbon long enough to go around the parameter of the fabric, needle and thread, white dress shirt, and 2 identical jewel pendants.

If you are making your own give yourself enough extra material to have a seam allowance. Fold the seam over and attach the ribbon with straight pins then sew it in place.

I sewed the tablecloth to the shoulders with the jewels attached just beneath the collar. I plan to use my table cloth as a tablecloth again so I made sure to sew it on in such a way that the tablecloth wasn't damaged.  The jewels give it a bit of flair and look as if they are what's holding the cape in place.

  4. Thank you very much. I never thought of myself as the creative type until I started doing other's tutorials. Now I look at stuff and try to figure out how it can be used for a prop. Or I look at pictures of what others have done to combine the aspects I like best.
