Pan Pipes Prop (nonworking)

I saw tutorials for making working pan pipes from paper or straws. So I thought these would really work, but I could not make them work. However, they work great for a character, who doesn't actually play them.

Materials needed are cardboard party blowers (Dollar Tree), ruler, Xacto knife, marker, hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, thin cardboard (cereal box), scissors, thicker cardboard. Brown paint, paintbrush, and natural colored twine optional.

Using the xacto knife cut the tape holding the paper and foil onto the cardboard off.

Leave one tube full size, the make the next tube slightly smaller. I cut mine in half inch intervals. Measure half an inch and mark it with the marker. Cut it off with the xacto knife and discard. For the next tube measure and cut off an inch. Cut off an inch and a half of the next tube. Keep going until you have 8 tubes cut.

Hot glue the part of the tube you cut to the thin cardboard. This will be the bottom of the pipes. Carefully cut the excess cardboard around the tube off. Line the tubes up tallest to shortest and make sure the tops are perfectly lined up. Then glue them together one by one.

Cut two narrow strips of the thicker card board and glue them about half an inch to an inch from the top of the pan pipes. As shown in the picture.

I did not paint my tubes before gluing them together. So, you can see bits of blue near the cardboard strip. I had to use a much smaller paintbrush to get in the cracks. It would probably be better to paint them before adding the cardboard strips and painting the cardboard strips separately.

If you add twine just wrap it around to cover the strips of cardboard and glue in place.
