Shiny Spiky Sea Urchins

Sabrina and I are making props for Tamatoa's horde; both his back and his lair. These sea urchins will be in with other stuff for his lair.

Materials needed include gold paint, paint brush, styrofoam ball, tooth picks, and velcro, (if attaching it to something).

Stick a toothpick into the the styrofoam ball deep enough to secure it. Add more toothpicks poking straight out about half an inch apart in relatively straight lines. We used about 100 toothpicks per sea urchin and only covered a little more than half of the ball. The audience won't see the bottom half.

I forgot that spray paint melts styrofoam until I had all of the toothpicks in. Oops. So I hand painted mine with the toothpicks already in. Although this tutorial; Easy DIY Sea Urchins uses spray paint.
