These mini sea urchin shells are my favorite prop that we made for Moana. I saw an image of a pumpkin someone decorated as a sea urchin, which gave me the idea. Of course you can follow the directions for any size fake pumpkin you want; just adjust the size of the beads to match.
Materials needed include; mini pumpkins (our tiny ones were from Dollar Tree), light pink paint, metallic pearl paint, dark pink puffy paint, paintbrush, gold bead stickers (also from Dollar Tree), scissors, hot glue gun, and hot glue sticks.
First I pulled the mini pumpkins off the stems. Then, I mixed the light pink paint with the metallic pearl to make it a bit more shiny. It took multiple coats of paint to cover the orange. I added a circle of dark pink puffy paint where the hole is on the shell.
The gold bead stickers came in a big sheet. I cut them to size and added one strand to each of the ten bumps. I hot glued the ends in place.
