Princess Cone Hat- Hennin Prop

Princess Hat or Hennin Prop

Hennin is the name of the Princess hat. Women would pluck their hairline to make their forehead appear bigger when these were popular. Women do weird things to their bodies in the name of beauty.

Materials needed are a big party hat (we got them from the Dollar Tree), Satin type of material, ribbon, double sided tape, stronger tape, scissors, pencil, poster board. Jeweled border stickers are optional.

Remove any foil and staples from the hat. Carefully open the hat and fold the flaps that secure it down. Trace the hat onto poster board then add about half an inch around the tracing. Cut it out. Trace the template on the backside of the fabric. Cut the fabric.

This sounds more complicated than it is. Hopefully I make sense. Lay the fabric with the outside face down. Put the party hat on top and use something to hold it open and down while you work. Use the doublesided tape to tape the flaps down. then carfully put doublesided tape down along the very edge of the hat. Carefully pull the fabric over and tape it down. Make sure the fabric is straight and the party hat stays in place so that there is extra fabric all around. Work your way around the entire hat until all fabric is taped down. You may need to add extra tape in places like the corners and top of the hat.

Add the ribbon to the inside of the top of the hat and secure it with stronger tape; we used duct tape. Close the hat back into the shape and add double sided tape along the inside of the side that will be outside.

Add any embellishments. We added jeweled border stickers. The template can be used to make more hats.
